This absolutely fascinating oceanic/mermaid themed ring was made in France and dates back to the height of the Late Victorian/Art Nouveau era. It features a pair of elaborate figural nude sea deity carvings on either side of the band ~ one with a trident & horn, joined elegantly in back with a detailed shell motif. I didn't see a discernable stamp (may have worn off over time) for metal content which is untested, so is being sold purely based on aesthetic quality versus possible gold content. The centerpiece cabochon stone is supported beautifully by scalloped shells, and appears to be made from some kind of antique cross-hatched bone. I don't have a ring sizer, but would estimate it to be around size 7-8 as the inner diameter measures approx. 17-18mm across. Personally I'd love to keep & wear it, but my hands are petite & I couldn't bare the thought of having it cut down and losing any of the original carvings on this exquisitely detailed band! The ring is in spectacular overall condition for its age & ready for many years of enjoyment in its next enchanting chapter... could even make for a truly amazing & one of a kind wedding or engagement ring!
